Charter

A Wiki Charter or policy is a document that sets guidelines for community collaboration and productive activity on the wiki.

Usage

The charter should be created at the start of a new wiki so that new members have the benefit of community guidelines as soon as they begin to collaborate. The charter can apply to other tools and platforms as well, and should be harmonized with acceptable use and information disclosure policies.

In organizations with widely dispersed staffs that work from remote locations and have limited interaction in a physical office setting, constructing the charter is especially important because it gives people an opportunity to build stronger connections with each other as they collectively set guidelines and expectations.
