Techies: Inconsistent Predictors of Mainstream Success

Chris Dixon says “techies” are inconsistent predictors of the success of new technology:

A lot of people call techies “early adopters” but I think this is a mistake: techies are only occasionally good predictors of which tech products normals will like.

The iPad is just the latest in a long string of tools that techies seemed to dismiss, but with two million sold in just under 60 days, the mainstream is voting it a big success so far.
