InfoWorld: Do’s & don’ts for managing IT projects with wikis

InfoWorld writer Ephraim Schwartz interviewed me recently for his article Do’s and don’ts for managing IT projects with wikis:

However you use them — as a lightweight project manager or as a document repository and knowledge management database — Mader warns that you should know how to use them to their best effect.

This is important because how you use a wiki is the most important factor in your success with the tool. Casually offering a wiki to your team won’t work, because most people don’t have time to play with new tools just because they’re available. Introduce it for a specific use that improves something about their current work: an inefficient process, an information bottleneck, busywork, etc. Focus is the key to successful adoption and consistent use.
