Want to See the Obama ’08 Logos That Didn’t Get Picked?

A few weeks ago, I wrote about New York Times reporter Steve Heller’s conversation with Sol Sender, designer of the Obama “O” logo. Sender recently joined design agency VSA Partners, and the firm has published a 2-part video interview with him. In it, he talks about how his firm got the assignment, their design process (including a look at the striking blandness in political branding over the past three decades), and the three finalists from which the “O” was chosen.

All three finalists are impressive and pushed the envelope on political branding, because they go beyond focusing on the candidate’s name, and reflect the everyday people the campaign is supposed to represent.

David Airey of Logo Design Love has just posted images of some of the early design concepts as well as the finalist logos: Obama logo ideas that weren’t chosen.
