Wikipatterns at Barcamp Mitteldeutschland

Wikipatterns - Barcamp JenaOn Sunday, 10 February, Martin Koser presented a session on Wiki Patterns at the Barcamp Mitteldeutschland in Jena, Germany. Here are the slides from his presentation, and a review of the session written by Dirk Röhrborn. Translated from German to English by Google Translate:

One of the last but still well-attended sessions of barcamp in Jena was by Martin Koser about Wiki patterns. In his presentation, incidentally, they jump on a Wiki has been created, focused primarily on experience with the introduction of wikis and social software in businesses and also to the book “wiki Patterns” by Stewart Mader.

Advice is a major success factor in the introduction of social software…Weitere Erfolgsfaktoren sind: Other success factors are:

  • Strengthen connectivity
  • Allow emergence – the people themselves decide how they work
  • Adaptive platforms – by the best service possible
  • Learn from the experiences of small “U-boat” or pilot projects
  • “Be quiet but carry a big stick” – that is consistently pursuing the goal, but proceed cautiously, since a “Big bang” introduction is not ideal.

  1. Stewart, yes, the session went really well – lots of informed comments and an intense discussion. BarCamp-style at its best. And I do think that wikipatterns won the case ;)

One thing that’s nice to add has to do with the “metaphor with the stick”: Dirk (who compiled the write-up you noticed) contributed that it makes a difference whether you lead or trail the “adoption herd” with this stick.

When you trail the herd, you use the stick to poke them (“go faster…”), when you lead to offer guidance and a sense of direction. We all liked this image quite a lot.
