A little bit of swedish campground in Mac
Given all the attention on Apple recently (including my own trek to Macworld to pay homage to the iPhone I can’t wait to own) I couldn’t resist posting this little bit of info. Andy Hertzfeld (who was part of the original Macintosh team) writes about the origin of the Infinite Loop symbol on the Apple key on your Mac, it on Folklore.org. As the story goes, they were using the apple logo on the key that was used to invoke menu options directly from the keyboard, but it was appearing too much in menus and looked overused. With only a few days left to finish MacOS software and manuals, Susan Kare looked in her international symbol directory for something unique, and found a symbol which is used in Sweden to identify places of interest in campgrounds. That symbol became what we commonly refer to as the infinite loop, or command key. Since some of my ancestry is Swedish, I’ve got one more reason to love Mac!
