Wiki use: Presentations (& useful slides2wiki conversion tool)

Presentations – Some people are using a wiki in place of conventional presentation software, like Keynote and PowerPoint. Here’s a presentation from Brian Lamb of UBC: What blogs, wikis, and Soylent Green have in common… I’ve recently tried this, since I have my main presentations online, and I’ve found that, except for not being able to use my presentation remote, it works pretty well. You may still want to give your presentations using Keynote or PowerPoint, but as I found recently when I didn’t have the necessary video adapter for the laptop I was using, being able to access my presentation online right away saved the day.

Melissa O’Neill of Harvey Mudd College has developed a very useful tool called slides2wiki that converts content in a Keynote/PowerPoint file or LaTeX-based markup into wiki markup. She describes the tool in Automated use of a Wiki for collaborative lecture notes, a paper published in the 2005 SIGCSE proceedings. [via ACM Portal]
