Discovery Educator Network: Aaron Smith describes how he chose to use a wiki for blogging and podcasting guides

Aaron Smith, an art teacher and education technologist in Australia, describes how he created blogging and podcasting guides for the Discovery Educator Network using a wiki. He says that he initially wanted to avoid wasting trees on paper handouts people might just throw away, and the success of his blogging wiki led him to use a wiki again for the podcasting guide. I especially like the end of his post, where he comments on having a community edited site: “That’s the neatest thing about wikis – more participants means I have less ownership in the resulting web site, but at the end of the day I’m proud to have gotten the ball rolling.” I feel the same way about The Science of Spectroscopy, and I think it’s a very important thing for anyone afraid that creating a wiki will diminish association with their work. Using a wiki has the opposite effect – you’ll feel validated when a community develops, and wants to be involved in what you started.
